"You're pretty for a dark skin girl" is one of the most loaded compliments I have ever received. The first time I heard this statement I was completely confused. To say that someone is pretty for a dark skin girl only reminds me of how the white standard of beauty has successfully become the only standard of beauty.
We are years past the brown paper bag test but on my daily social media troll I am constantly reminded of how not only race is still an issue but also skin tone. Personally it took me quite sometime to realize my own beauty, which is why I started this blog as a way to unapologetically celebrate my darkness.
I still have my personal image issues that I am working on but I see my self as pretty, and not just for a dark skin girl! What do you think are the social views on darker skin? Comment below!
